Other Desserts
I suppose were I to dream up a proper category, I would use the colloquial British “pudding,” but I have a hard time fitting crisps, cobblers and crumbles and other spoonable goodness into the American definition, not to mention the many other sweets that defy labels. So I’m sticking with “Other.”

Ginger Pear Crisp
Accustomed to your basic apple-cinnamon combination, I decided to look for a something a little tangier.
Mom’s Berry Cobbler
Every childhood summer for years meant a trip across the street to pick blackberries from the greenbelt. And the only thing sweeter than a popping a handful of berries straight into our mouths was the promise of Mom’s berry cobbler, the perfect balance of fruit and biscuit.
Caramel Banana Bread Pudding
Overripe bananas aren’t just for banana bread anymore. Richly decadent, this bread pudding is a great way to use those browning lumps in the freezer.
Leftover Rice Pudding
How often have you ordered Chinese food and found that the little box packed full of white rice just ends up stuffed in the back of the fridge for months? My solution has always been to create a quick and simple rice pudding, giving new life to the otherwise bland brick.
Maple Banana Cream Dessert Squares
Inspired by tried-and-true banana usages—pancake topping and pie filling—I set out to create an ooey gooey banana confection big enough to allow a room full of people to celebrate.
Raspberry Tiramisu
When you crave the soft, creamy delight of tiramisu but not the caffeine buzz, this berry-based alternative hits all the right spots.
Rum Balls
Rum balls are the quintessential tipsy treat of many households during the holidays, and while I could add them to my seasonal treat list, they have yet to make the basket. Instead, I’ve pulled out this staple on a few occasions when you just want something quick and easy that is a crowd pleaser for the over-21s.
Strawberries Romanov
I first came across my favourite recipe years ago in my beloved Victoria Magazine. Their version, using just fresh strawberries, heavy cream, port and sugars, is basic but decadent.
