Cookies
Lay’s Potato Chips have nothing on cookies when it comes to eating “just one.” How many times have the single-serving treats been just too tempting?
The drop cookie is the mainstay of my holiday horde, but I’m always on the lookout for a refrigerator, rolled or pressed cookie recipe for the ages, so those sections may be built up later.

Apple Cider Caramel Cookies
Above and beyond, this has my vote for winner of the 2009 holiday baking season. The buttery cookie with a filling-threatening caramel center is as fun to bake as it is to eat.
Gingersnaps
Moister than the crisp ginger cookies you’ll find at any grocery store, these pack a crowd-pleasing “snap” of spices to earn their place as annual holiday treats.
Key Lime Cookies
A lime explosion in your mouth, these sinfully sweet desserts make it hard to stop at just one.
Lime and Coconut Macaroons
With a delicate, lingering citrus flavor, just one of these soft and chewy coconut pillows can be a delightful dessert—that is, if you can resist a half-dozen.
Oatmeal Apple Raisin Cookies
A variation on Betty Crocker’s classic Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, my version incorporates a handful of wholesome ingredients for not only a lighter, fluffier taste, but also a healthier snack, worthy of becoming a treat for trailblazers and urban hikers alike.
Orange Spice Cookies
For the 2010 season, I thought I’d take a break from my ubiquitous gingersnap, retaining the tang but adding a healthful element as well. These round morsels have Christmas written all over them: a potpourri of scent and flavour.
PB&J Cookies
While peanut butter and chocolate is a decadent combination, the classic combo of peanut butter and jelly is a mouthful of comfort.
Peanut Butter-Chocolate Chip Cookies
The ubiquitous chocolate chip cookie. Regardless whether it’s an old-family recipe or right off the Tollhouse bag (which often is the old-family recipe), everyone seems to have some variation on the timeless classic. For my recipe, I prefer to substitute peanut butter into the mix for the extra comfort.
Peanut Butter-Stuffed Chocolate Cookies
Inspired by my younger brother’s quest for the right mix of chocolate and peanut in a cookie, I went on a quest for the proper way to fill a cookie with peanut butter.
Snickerdoodles
While traditional snickerdoodles tend to be crunchier, I prefer a larger, moister cookie that melts in your mouth.
Tropical Fruitcake Cookies
All the fruity goodness of the seasonal staple, with none of the heavy, rummy cake commitment.
Shortbread
A recent expedition in my Nana’s kitchen uncovered her shortbread recipe. Incredibly simple and made with minimal ingredients, it’s a perfect buttery bite that perfectly pairs with an afternoon cup of tea.
