Bars
When most people think of bars, the first image in their mind is probably a moist, warm brownie. But the ever versatile bar is just as varied as the cookie. Chewy, crunchy or fluffy, the bar can be as ordinary as the childhood favourite Rice Krispy Treat or as decadent as a Nanaimo bar.
Since my list will (hopefully) feature some varied classics, I'm dividing it generically as baked or non-baked.
Banana Split Cheesecake Bars
Creamy and crunchy, with various flavors bursting forth, this little confection lives up to its soda shop namesake.
Basic Brownies
Simple. Moist. Delicious. When you're craving something classic, the ubiquitous brownie is worth every calorie.
Strawberries and Cream Bars
I’ve combined the texture of classic revel bars with the flavor of strawberries and cream for a fudgy yet fruity treat.
Two-Tone Sour Cherry Brownies
Few things satisfy a sweet tooth the way a fudgy brownie does, but when there are so many chocolates to choose from, it’s hard to decide which flavor will hit the spot. Why not have the best of both worlds with a white and dark chocolate duo?
Chocolate-Coconut-Caramel Crispy Bars
Rice crispy bars are one of the quickest, easiest desserts to make and even easier to manipulate. For this variation, slightly bitter semisweet chocolate chips offset the sweetness of the marshmallows and caramel, and coconut creates a soft, sweet, textured bite.
White Chocolate-Strawberry Crispy Bars
In crafting another variation on the rice crispy bar, the nutritious-yet-nostalgic trend of adding strawberries seemed a natural fit. Combined with the mild smoothness of white chocolate, the result was a dreamy strawberries-and-cream comfort food.
